Front-end tipper

Happened to see this unique contraption on Goa Road at Sadankeri

Looks like Willys Jeep modified to carry loose material like sand, pebbles, even food grains.

Babu Shiekh's Tanga

As a kid I've traveled in such tangas from Dharwad Railway Station to my grandparents home. The ride was slow but interesting especially sitting next to the driver in the front seat.

Dipi and I in the front. Mom and Grandfather would be sitting at the back. Those days Dharwad used to be peaceful, hardly any traffic, no rickshaws on the roads, mostly pedestrians, bicycles and tangas.

Babu told me that just six or seven of these plying at the moment. Looking at it it reminds me of Basanti's tanga in Sholay.

I've seen tangas in Badhravathi and Bangalore also but the design is different... some what similar to a bullock cart with a top.

Vishwanath Lingareddi

The hyper-active six year old son of our office building owner.

Those are his muddy prints.

His poor little bike. He's done pooja to it on Amavasya.

That's his favorite toy.

I've seen him load it with dirt.

That's his dad's tipper and you can see his toy tipper in. I could see his hand marks... he's played out there!

He's made a garage for his tipper and built a dam for rain water gutter.

Sweet little kiddo he is.

Milestones in history

Not long back, trees and milestones were drivers' company on highways. But off late, with the widening of the highways, trees are chopped down and milestones are slowly becoming history.

The milestone reads;
Hebsur 34km
Dharwad 2km

The other face reads;
Haliyal 31km
Ganeshgudi 64 km

28 must be the state highway number.

This stone, I have no idea how long it's been standing here. But today might be the last day... close by was an excavator digging away this side to widen the road.
